It's a bit like the lack of 'dos' in the name dis.pc! A problem
of history. :-(
First I felt the need for different .sig's for posting in
different groups. The .sig file already existed, and is in
the \demon\spool\mail directory (Snews has some pretty wierd
ideas of how to organise (?) directories, but no doubt that's
due to even older history). So I kept the .sig file where it
was, but added overriding newsgroup-specific .sig files in the
'newsbase' directory.
Sure, I could have collected the .sigs together and put them in
the .rc file, or something, but this way was simpler to code.
Then I wanted to add something similar to a .sig, but at the top
of the message body. So .top files were born. And adding lines
to the header, hence .hdr files.
For simple reliable code they all use the same method, so there's
just one lump of code, not 3 times over. So the snews.hdr file
goes in the same irrational place as the snews.top and snews.sig
files. But, consistent with the mechanism for .sig, which allows
you to specify your .sig file in a "signature=" line (mine is
"signature=john.sig") there's provision for "topper=" and
"header=" lines in the .rc file. The idea was to provide
flexibility in case you've got multiple users on your machine.
So, in summary, it's not only possible to add "X-No-Archive: Yes",
"X-No-Markup: Yes", "X-Encrypted: double rot-13" headers, or whatever
else you like, but you can do different things in different groups.

There are others???

demon.ip.support.pc is for DOS, and IP means Internet Protocol, NOT MS WINDOWS
