May 2002
Site reorganisation in progress. Try ftp://ftp.johnwash.com/ where 020504.386 is imminent and a 32-bit version should follow shortly. Or try ../ftp/snews/020504.386/snews.zip 266Kb.

You should be able to see the content of the ftp directories, in other words if I upload a new version but forget to mention it you should now easily find it. If that's not so, please mail me.

Minor improvements to logging in unbatch.

Handle cc/bcc in direct posted news articles.

Changes concerning international substitutes for Re:.

        (32-bit version only)
Uses 32-bit article numbers, allowing more than
        65,535 articles per newsgroup.
Only available in DPMI version (built with djgpp).

Corrections encouraged by trying latest djgpp, which
        is stricter.

Tidying up code and comments, particularly in .rc loading.

        Added mail2snz.exe to this zip.

Allow for newsbase file offsets greater than 8 digits in length, by avoiding hardcoded offsets within index files. This adds support for newsgroups over 100Mb.

Minor changes, mostly of interest only to mail2snz users (refer to the end of mods.h for further details). This release is intended as the final release before the Sept 2001 problem hits us.

Users must ensure that they have recent versions of Snews, Reindex, Expire, and Unbatch, otherwise there will be problems when we go beyond 999,999,999 seconds from Jan 1, 1970 (Sept 9, 2001). These problems were corrected in Demon's Snews version 1.31 and in mine from the same period, 18 months ago (991228 onwards).

This is an experimental version, not intended for general use.

Parts of the screen are not updated when you would expect them to be, please do not report this as a fault. It is a result of a complete rewrite of the scrolling and redrawing code, a work in progress.

Changes have also been made to improve video handling, a response to a report of version 010104 flashing on some machines.

In group display: F5 key toggles display of suspended groups.

For the first time, this contains more executables than just snews.exe. In particular, this version of Unbatch should be less prone to aborting when unbatching large numbers of articles.

SUPERSEDED. Same warning again. Failed to correct a problem with the new experimental -o option.

SUPERSEDED. Don't try this unbatch unless you have _EVERYTHING_ thoroughly backed up. I've not even run it myself.

SUPERSEDED. This version includes the snews.fnt and snews.hlp files. Put these files in the same directory as snews.exe. Blind users should discard the snews.fnt file. Users who never need help should discard the snews.hlp file!

For DPMI versions check both these links (sometimes one has later material than the other):

Eventually I may install the DJGPP compiler myself and generate such versions, but Dave is doing a great job, so I'm not feeling pressure to go this route.
